Here’s what the book is about: Mr. Sprinkles and Popcorn Popper are plotting to take over our fridges and pantries – using their army of evil chocolate chips and the allure of junk food, tempting us from everywhere. Will there be someone determined enough to stop them, before they make us all sick? Can Super Salmon Sandwich and his friend Crunchy Carrot stop the villains and help us make healthy food choices?

We had a chance to ask Maria some questions about her experience as an author!

GGC: What prompted you to write The Invasion of the Evil Chocolate Chips?

MM: My Mom has been encouraging me to make healthier food choices and one day I thought, “What if food was alive!” I then wrote that idea into a story.

GGC: Why should Girl Guides read your book?  

MM: Girl Guides should read my book because it is amusing and helps you to make better food choices.

GGC: What is the most interesting thing that has happened since you became an author?

MM: The most interesting thing that has happened to me since I became an author is a little while ago I learned that CTV news is coming to interview me at home and in my grade 4 class. I can’t wait!  [EDITOR’S NOTE: See the interview here!]

GGC: What advice would you have for other girls aspiring to write a book?

MM: If you aspire to write a book my advice would be not to put too many boundaries on what you’re going to write and how you plan to do it. It is easier to write about something that interests you than something you find boring. Last but not least, your book has to have a topic and not be all scattered. If it is all scattered, no one will understand it!
