FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: December 6, 2012
GIRL GUIDES OF CANADA, QUÉBEC COUNCIL,
RESPONDS TO RELEVANCE!
Meeting the needs of today’s women through Girl Guides
MONTREAL, (CANADA) – Girl Guides of Canada, Québec Council, (GGC-QC) today announced the release of its research report, Girl Leadership: Results of Girl Guide Programming in Québec, regarding the analysis of the relevance of Girl Guides in Québec for today’s young women. The report reveals that 87% of parents believe that Guiding has made their daughters more confident, 93% believe that Guiding has provided their daughters with positive friendships, and that 68% feel that Guiding has increased their daughters’ sense of community engagement.
“We are thrilled by this research finding. This clearly shows that today’s young girls need a positive and non-competitive environment that complements their home and school life. Québec Girl Guides is one of the very few organizations today that provides such an environment for young girls and women,” states Pamela Rice, Girl Guides Provincial Commissioner – Québec.
Pamela continues, “This report breaks down our program model which underscores the importance of developing girl leadership through a variety of different experiences and clearly shows how Girl Guides helps in the advancement of young women which then allows them to become positive role models in today’s society.”
The survey on which this report was based was conducted by GGC-QC and was sent to over 1900 families in Québec. The survey received a 20.33% response rate, plus or minus a three percentage point margin of error. To request a copy of the full report please contact us.
The Québec Girls Leading Tomorrow campaign is a year-long program, launched on October 11, the very first International Day of the Girl, with various events taking place throughout Québec through Spring 2013, including our 2013 Guider Symposium on January 19, 2013, the Québec Young Women’s Forum, and culminating with the annual provincial Guiding Festival, Festi-Guides, scheduled for early Spring of 2013.
