“À vos marques, prêtes, GO! [On your marks, get set, GO!]” sounded the kick-off to Adventure Trek-Défi Aventure, issued by Mayor Yvan Cardinal this past October. And it was an adventure indeed! By touring stations led by Girl Guides on a circuit in and around Olympic Park in Pincourt, Québec, members of the community had the chance to take a taste of Guiding activities such as geocaching, zumba classes, sampling international tapas to represent the Guiding World Centres, nature survival and backpacking, service projects such as Yellow Fish Road – and there was even a flash mob (video coming soon!)!
As Québec’s flagship event of the Guiding year, uniting Girl Guides of all branches across the province, Adventure Trek offered more than just a showcase to the public. “It was a fantastic opportunity for girls to explore all that is offered through Guiding leadership-wise as well,” commented Deputy Provincial Commissioner and member of the Adventure Trek Organizing Committee, Amber Lebrun. “For instance, the Express Yourself booth gave girls a platform to be themselves completely, and to explore their confidence, which is something that Guiding is all about.”
With an outstanding turnout on a very windy and showery autumn afternoon, members and non-members alike participated first-hand in how we enable girls to be confident, resourceful and courageous, and to make a difference in the world.
